Circle of Fifths

The Circle of Fifths is an easy way to keep the scales and key signatures completely organized. If you start at the top of the circle (at the C) and work your way to the right (clockwise), then you will notice that each scale degree goes up by an interval of a perfect 5th. You also add one sharp every time you move a degree to the right.

If you decide to go to the left (counterclockwise), then you will notice that each of the scale degrees goes up by an interval of a perfect 4th. You also add one flat every time you move a degree to the left.
